He was standing in the water,
\ntrying to understand
\nwhether his body was hot,
\nor the water was cold.<\/p>\n
An old man in shorts and a peaked cap
\npassed by, walking along the wet sand
\nof the shore.
\nHis naked feet left
\ndistinct and deep footsteps behind.<\/p>\n
A wave broke into foam
\na couple of meters before the shoreline.
\nThe top of the wave continued ahead,
\ncovered the beach,
\nand then quickly
\ndisappeared into the sand.<\/p>\n
The old man\u2019s steps
\nwere still clearly visible,
\nbut had now softer, rounded profiles,
\njust like we
\nsometimes,
\nwhen we look back on our life,
\nfinally better can see
\nthe bigger picture.<\/p>\n
After a little while, nature sent a second wave,
\nwhich let its soft hands
\nsmooth out the trace even more.<\/p>\n
It was still possible to see the steps,
\nbut only if you knew
\nthat they ware there.<\/p>\n
When a third wave
\nhad put itself to rest under the sand,
\nthe only thing that was left was the memory,
\nand the word.<\/p>\n
